Contentious net neutrality proposal gets FCC green light

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission voted Thursday to reinstate net neutrality rules, asking whether it should move forward a proposal allowing broadband providers to engage in “commercially reasonable” traffic management or whether it should regulate broadband as a common-carrier utility.

The proposed rulemaking opens to public comment for 120 days, according to PCWorld.

Perhaps most controversial is whether Internet service providers should be allowed to charge Web content providers for priority traffic.
