Consumer sentiment dips in January

Analysts were expecting the recent economic improvement to boost consumer sentiment in January, but it didn’t work out that way.

According to reporting by Reuters, the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan index measuring consumer confidence fell to 81.2 in January, down from 82.5 the previous month.

The lackluster figure reflects a gloomy outlook about personal finances improving for households earning $75,000 or less; wealthier households enjoyed a higher level of confidence, the survey found.
