The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. at Legacy Trails, 3800 N. FR 143.
Habitat and Thrivent Financial volunteers will build a three-bedroom house for David and Ruth Akin and their two children. The Akin family has lived in an overcrowded apartment in need of repairs and in an unsafe neighborhood for seven years, according to a Habitat news release.
The Akins will provide “sweat equity” for the project under the guidance of volunteer project manager Willis Melgren.
This is Thrivent Financial’s second Habitat project; last year the not-for-profit organization helped build a two-bedroom home for a single father and his daughter.
The Akin family project is part of a national alliance established last year between Habitat for Humanity International and the national Thrivent Financials for Lutherans’ program Thrivent Builds. Thrivent Builds committed $105 million over four years and will have built 668 homes.
