Construction of College Station begins Thursday

Posted online
The city of Springfield and developer Scott Tillman will break ground Thursday for downtown’s long-awaited $20 million College Station development.

A ceremony will be held at 1:15 p.m. at College Street, west of Campbell Avenue, for the entertainment complex. Guests will include congressman Roy Blunt and John Askew, regional administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Kansas City office. Greg Steinhoff, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, will give a special announcement.

College Station was slated for completion by fall 2006, but it was delayed by design changes and higher-than-expected parking deck construction bids.

The public-private development will cover two acres bound by Campbell and Market avenues and College and McDaniel streets. Restaurants and retail will fill 77,000 square feet, and a 14-screen, first-run movie theater by Wallace Theater Holdings will occupy another 46,000 square feet. A 393-space public parking deck will be located on the development’s south tract.

Tillman is piloting the project, and Butler, Rosenbury & Partners is designing it.

Completion is set for March 2008.[[In-content Ad]]
