Construction industry vet Tom Netzer dies at 83

Tom Netzer, a veteran in the Springfield-area construction industry, has died. He was 83.

Netzer died Aug. 5, according to his obituary posted to GormanScharpf.com. The cause of death is not identified.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Netzer was executive vice president at the engineering firm now known as Own Inc. Springfield Business Journal archives indicate he "was instrumental in developing the firm's materials testing and drilling departments."

Netzer finished his career as chief engineer and general manager of quarry operations at Concrete Company of Springfield and Conco Quarries Inc. in Willard before retiring in 2007, according to his obituary.

Additionally, he was involved with Ozark Greenways Inc. for more than 25 years, serving as a long-time board member and for two terms as president, the obituary states.
