The Springfield location of Krispy Kreme is now under construction on South Campbell Avenue. The general contractor on the project is Nesbitt Construction and the architect is Butler Rosenbury & Partners Inc.
The structure comprises about 5,000 square feet, and it will be completed this fall, according to architect Geoffrey Butler. The estimated construction cost is about $500,000, Butler said.
"Probably the best description of it is it's a doughnut factory, and it has the ability to make up to 50,000 doughnuts a day," Butler said. The doughnut-making equipment is visible through a glass wall, so visitors can watch the doughnuts being made. The structure also includes a drive-through lane. The developer for the project is Sho-Me-Dough Inc.
