Conference explores Missouri energy issues

Posted online
More than 130 utility and energy experts representing 65 Missouri organizations are expected to attend the 2008 Utility & Energy Conference in Columbia on Tuesday.

The conference, hosted by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Reynolds Alumni Center at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

“This collaboration is important as the state works to overcome concerns such as rising prices, fading supplies of nonrenewable energy sources and environmental quality,” chamber President and CEO Dan Mehan said in a news release.

Karen Harbert, executive vice president and managing director of the U.S. Chamber Institute for 21st Century, is the keynote speaker.

Topics will include energy innovation efforts at University of Missouri, an overview of the state’s energy supply and demand, planning for the future at the utility level – which includes City Utilities Director of Public Policy and Government Relations Kyle McClure as a panelist – challenges and solutions at the energy consumers’ level, energy regulations, and a state legislative update on energy and efficiency issues. The day will conclude with a question-and-answer forum with regulators and legislators and a networking reception.

The cost to attend is $75 for sponsors and students, $125 for Missouri chamber members, and $175 for non-chamber members. More information is available at www.mochamber.com.[[In-content Ad]]
