There is no lag in commercial construction in Springfield, according to Morris Dock, owner of MoDoCo and Three-D Properties. MoDoCo itself has several projects going on in and around Springfield, Dock said.|ret||ret||tab|
Among the projects near completion, the French Quarter Plaza located in the 1600 block of East Republic Road, east of Fremont, is scheduled for occupancy in June, according to Ken Schwab, commercial real estate agent with Wilhoit Properties.|ret||ret||tab|
Don Grimes, owner of the Chardonnay Grill, has leased approximately 8,000 square feet of the French Quarter Plaza, where he will feature typical American cuisine including steaks and seafood. Grimes expects to be open for business by mid-July. Schwab said other leases in the center are under negotiation.|ret||ret||tab|

Nearing completion at 1303 E. Kingsley is the 113,400-square-foot, 138-suite Marriott Residence Inn. Designed to resemble a Bavarian Village, the project is listed as costing $5.4 million. The developer is John Q. Hammons and the contractor is Killian Construction Co. The project is expected to be completed in mid-September. |ret||ret||tab|
Also nearing completion at 1343 E. Kingsley is Tuscany Court, according to Schwab. The project features twin buildings connected by a courtyard with a fountain, designed to provide a uniquely attractive setting. The 30,000-square-foot structure is a multipurpose complex specializing in medical-related businesses. HealthSouth, which provides physical therapy service to patients, is the first tenant. HealthSouth has leased 4,000 square feet and expects to move in by the first of July. "The center is designed to accommodate the medical community," Schwab said, and "overlooks James River Freeway and the Cox campus." The general contractor on the project is Williams Construction Inc.|ret||ret||tab|
Williams Construction has also just completed the Remington's Corner at 1645 West Republic Road. Leasing negotiations for space in the complex are under way with several retailers, according to Schwab.|ret||ret||tab|

Recently completed on the east side of town, the Eastgate Office Park in the 2100 block Eastgate contains 9,600 square feet of space that can accommodate up to six tenants. The all-brick building is situated north of Springfield Catholic High School and offers signage on Highway 65 Bypass. Morelock-Ross Builders was the general contractor on the project, Schwab said.|ret||ret||tab|
On North Kansas Expressway, construction has begun on a new strip center owned by J-K Investments at the corner of Kansas and Kearney, Schwab said. Morelock-Ross Builders is general contractor for the 12,200-square-foot structure, which is adjacent to Pet Warehouse and Hobby Lobby. Playmore Inc., a retail store that sells and leases electronic equipment, has leased 6,000 square feet of space in the center, which is expected to be completed in September.|ret||ret||tab|
Conversion of the Wal-Mart store at 3315 S. Campbell into a supercenter is set for completion in spring 2002, according to Ralph Graham, district manager for the company. The project is "one of the most major three-wall expansions" the company has ever done," Graham said. One of five Wal-Mart stores serving Springfield, the new store will absorb the mall area on the north side of the existing structure and expand to the south as well, increasing the floor space to about 170,000 square feet. The new structure will contain 36 departments, Graham said.|ret||ret||tab|
In front of the South Campbell Wal-Mart, work on the Signature Bank building which formerly housed Bank of America is complete and the bank has taken up residence. David Kunze, Signature president and chief executive officer, said the bank renovated the interior of the building with new carpet, wallpaper and countertops. The outside features new signage and a newly painted green roof. The 5,000-square-foot building is the bank's third location. |ret||ret||tab|
The company opened its home office building, a 13,000-square-foot structure, at Kansas Expressway and James River Freeway earlier in May.|ret||ret||tab|
Sam's Club at 3660 E. Sunshine is adding 27,000 square feet to the east side of its existing building, according to general manager Britt Gardner. The expansion, contracted by Progressive Constructors Inc., will increase the size of the building to approximately 135,000 square feet and is set for completion by late September.|ret||ret||tab|
Sam's will expand its present departments and add new departments including a bakery, fresh floral department and a drive-through pharmacy, Gardner said.|ret||ret||tab|
A new building is under construction at Twin Oaks Office Park on Republic Road. Three-D Properties is the developer on the project with MoDoCo acting as general contractor, according to Morris Dock. The two-story structure contains approximately 5,200 square feet per floor and can be sold or leased by the floor or as a whole. Dock said a tenant has already been found for the upper level who expects to take occupancy in October of this year.|ret||ret||tab|
Another MoDoCo project is near completion at 2220 W. Sunset. The Cox Home Parenteral Home support facility, owned by Cox Health Systems, will provide intravenous home treatment for the elderly.[[In-content Ad]]
