The hacking attempt has been shut down, and Commerce and law enforcement authorities have begun an investigation, according to a statement from the bank.
Meanwhile, Commerce has determined that 20 customers – including several locally – had personal data compromised. The customers are in a single database that has about 3,000 other records that were not compromised.
Commerce has notified the 20 customers, as well as the remaining 3,000 in the database. The bank also is providing free credit-monitoring service to the affected customers for two years and a toll-free number to call with questions or concerns.
Commerce is asking all of its customers to carefully monitor their accounts and contact the bank immediately if they notice any fraudulent charges.
