Commerce Bank retains deposit lead in MSA

Commerce Bank held on to its spot as deposit leader in the Springfield metropolitan statistical area.

With deposits of $1.2 billion as of June 30, Commerce held 14.4 percent of deposits in the MSA - which comprises Greene, Christian, Dallas, Polk and Webster counties, according to the FDIC's deposit market share report released last week.

Great Southern Bank, which held deposits of $1.1 billion as of June 30, retained second place with its roughly 13 percent market share.

The top nine deposit holders in the Springfield metro area held their ranks compared to 2013. Oakstar Bank bumped Metropolitan National Bank off the top 10 this year.

Empire Bank stayed at No. 3 with deposits of $951.5 million and 11.5 percent of the market. Guaranty Bank ranked fourth with its $485.6 million in deposits, or 5.9 percent of the market share.

Liberty Bank held its No. 5 spot with $480.4 million in deposits, or 5.8 percent of the MSA's share, according to the FDIC data. Liberty is under contract to be acquired in the fourth quarter by Pine Bluff, Ark.-based Simmons First National Corp. (Nasdaq: SFNC), which as of June 30, was near the bottom of the barrel in terms of deposits in the Springfield MSA. It held $8.1 million in deposits at that time, or 0.1 percent of the market share.

As of June 30, the 42 institutions in the Springfield MSA held combined deposits of $8.3 billion in the five-county area.[[In-content Ad]]
