Kansas City-based Commerce Bancshares Inc. (Nasdaq: CBSH) retained its No. 1 spot for deposits held in the Springfield metropolitan statistical area for another year.
Released yesterday, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.’s latest data ranks banks by deposits as of June 30. The MSA comprises Greene, Christian, Dallas, Polk and Webster counties and includes 39 banking institutions.
Commerce held $1.3 billion in Springfield-area deposits at the end of the second quarter, representing 14.8 percent of the total market share. That’s up from 14.4 percent a year earlier.
Springfield-based Great Southern Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: GSBC) kept its No. 2 rank with $1.28 billion, or 14.6 percent of the MSA’s deposits.
Central Bank of the Ozarks, known as Empire Bank
until this summer, retained the third spot. The bank held $989.3 million in deposits, or 11.3 percent of the market share.
Again in the No. 4 spot was Guaranty Federal Bancshares Inc. (Nasdaq: GFED), which held $523.1 million in deposits, or 6 percent of the market share, as of June 30.
Simmons First National Corp. (Nasdaq: SFNC) moved up to the No. 5 spot, with $404.2 million, or 4.6 percent of the deposit market lead. The company took over the fifth spot previously held by Liberty Bancshares Inc., which it purchased
earlier this year. On the 2014 deposit rankings list, Simmons First was 41st on the list of 42 institutions in the market. As of June 30, 2014, the bank held $8.1 million area deposits, or 0.1 percent of the local MSA's market share.
