Commerce Bank building Joplin HQ in tornado recovery zone

Commerce Bank is moving its Joplin headquarters to the southwest corner of 20th Street and Connecticut Avenue – the site where a Commerce branch was destroyed in the May 2011 tornado, Joplin Regional Business Journal reports.

The bank currently operates a branch in downtown Joplin, but officials say the 20th and Connecticut bank had long been its highest traffic branch in the city. The business journal reports Commerce purchased adjacent land for construction, which is slated to be complete in first-quarter 2015.

The 12,500-square-foot bank is designed with “a technology bar with customer work stations” and video conferencing capabilities.
