Comcast reaches settlement over privacy

Comcast has reached a $33 million settlement with California over allegations that the cable company posted personal details of customers online, according to state Attorney General Kamala Harris.

Comcast is ordered to pay $25 million to the California Department of Justice and the California Public Utilities Commission and $8 million in restitution to customers whose numbers were improperly disclosed.

According to Reuters, Comcast also is required to strengthen restrictions placed on its vendors' use of personal information about customers.
