Comcast in talks to buy DreamWorks Animation for $3B

Comcast is in talks to buy DreamWorks Animation for more than $3 billion, people familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires.

Comcast, which owns Universal Pictures, is pushing to mimic Disney by using its animation properties to build out its consumer products and theme parks businesses.

That strategy could be accelerated by the purchase of DreamWorks, which counts "Shrek," "Kung Fu Panda" and "Madagascar" among its collective works. Universal Pictures has gained success with its animated "Despicable Me" and "Minions" movies.
