Comcast fined $2.3M for improperly charging customers

The Federal Communications Commission yesterday ordered cable giant Comcast Corp. to pay $2.3 million for wrongfully charging customers for gear and services they never requested.

Officials say the fine is the largest civil penalty ever imposed on a cable operator.

Comcast is accused of charging customers for such equipment as set-top boxes and such services as premium channels even after they specifically rejected those offers.
