Melissa S. Scott, ASID, designed the interior of The Design Agency's headquarters at 333 S. Jefferson Ave., Ste. 200, pictured at right. Scott and her husband, architect Daniel Scott, are the principals in both The Design Agency and in Jericho Development Company, which owns the building. Daniel Scott was the project architect.
The office, which comprises 1,900 square feet, provides a comfortable yet contemporary office environment. The visual expression of the company's identity and personality, the space features cherry-stained, rift-cut oak paneling, curved walls, 15-foot-high arched ceilings, extensive glass for daylight penetration throughout, plus indirect lighting. The colors are Dover white, soft earthy greens, black and jazzy deep purple accents targeted to creating a classy, timeless aesthetic.
The marriage of new and old design elements (arched ceilings with the exposed purple ductwork) offer a modern surprise from the conventional downtown genre. The 45-foot curved wood corridor is a major design element exemplifying the craftsmanship found throughout the office. Banded glass and specialty wall sconces add an elegant luster.
Melissa Scott's desk was designed by local architect Richard Stahl in the '50s and restored by the Scotts last year. Daniel Scott designed a desk for himself to complement the Stahl original.
