At College of the Ozarks, education extends beyond the classroom—it’s a calling to serve. Graduates of Hard Work U. step into their careers with more than just knowledge; they bring character, work ethic, and a commitment to making a difference. From shaping young minds in education to offering compassionate healthcare, C of O graduates live out the College’s mission in profound ways. Their impact is felt far beyond campus, proving that a Christ-centered education prepares students not just to succeed—but to serve.
Dallas DeWeese, a Hollister Middle School social studies teacher and College of the Ozarks alumnus, embodies excellence in education and community impact. In 2024, DeWeese was Missouri’s sole recipient of the prestigious Milken Educator Award, known as the “Oscar of Education.” This national accolade recognizes top educators in their early careers, and DeWeese’s dynamic teaching style reflects why he earned it. By integrating English, science, and math into social studies, he fosters hands-on, real-world learning. Beyond academics, DeWeese inspires students to lead and serve through initiatives like the school’s Tiger Coffee Shop, where students gain valuable experience in customer service and leadership, and a thriving student council. He is furthering the College’s mission daily by continuing to cultivate hardworking citizens with quality character.
Hannah Hill, a 2020 nursing graduate, stepped into her career during an unprecedented time—amid the COVID-19 pandemic. From the ICU at Cox South in Springfield, Missouri to her current position as a nurse at an integrative clinic, Hannah’s dedication to patient care is rooted in a lifelong passion for medicine and service. Inspired by childhood experiences and her mother’s nursing background, she embraced the challenges of frontline healthcare with resilience. College of the Ozarks provided her with a strong foundation, from rigorous academics to hands-on clinical experience. Through it all, Hannah remains committed to providing compassionate, skilled care, embodying the College’s vision of hard work and Christlike character.
Joshua Smith, another 2020 graduate of College of the Ozarks and first engineering cohort, is making an impact as a mechanical design engineer at Multi-Craft Contractors in Springfield, Missouri. His work helps streamline manufacturing by creating custom automation solutions for companies, including SRC Remanufacturing and Ridewell Suspensions. At C of O, Joshua developed technical and soft skills through diverse campus jobs. Beyond work, he serves at his local church, leading a men’s Bible study and working on the production team. “C of O gave me a biblical foundation I now share with others,” he says. Joshua exemplifies not only vocational success, but also Christ-centered leadership in his community.
These C of O graduates prove that a meaningful education is one that inspires service. They invest in others, mentor students and care for patients, all of which contribute to their communities in lasting ways. The College’s mission isn’t just taught; it’s lived out in the everyday choices of its alumni. Their stories reflect a simple truth: when students are equipped with strong work ethic, character, and purpose, they don’t just enter the workforce—they transform it.
