Coldwater Creek files for bankruptcy protection

Women's clothing retailer Coldwater Creek Inc. on Friday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the latest in a growing list of retailers to seek protection from creditors as consumers keep a lid on spending.

According to Fox Business, the retailer listed assets of $10 million to $50 million against liabilities of $100 million to $500 million.

"While we are extremely disappointed with this outcome, the company's declining liquidity position and the challenging retail environment, together with the fact that we have exhausted all other possibilities, requires that we take this action," Chief Executive Jill Dean said in a statement.
