The estimated remediation cost for Coldwater Creek and other radioactive waste sites in St. Louis County will cost the federal government more than expected to tackle.
The estimate is now $406 million, up from $177 million previously, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
The Coldwater Creek site was contaminated for decades by radioactive waste leftover from the development of the first atomic bomb during World War II, the Missouri Independent reports.
