Coke and Pepsi launch competing green stevia sodas

Maybe the pitch that the new sodas are healthier because they are sweetened with the much-ballyhooed stevia plant will get the kids to drink more pop. It's debatable whether the strangely off-putting green cans will make anyone thirst for Pepsi's and Coca-Cola's newest low-calorie drinks.
 
Pepsi True, promoted as having 30 percent less sugar than a real Pepsi and none of the dreaded fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners that powered the Pepsi Generation, will be available in mid-October but only through Amazon. Coke Life, at 35 percent fewer calories than regular Coke, is already available in limited markets and goes nationwide in November.
 
The soda giants are going head to head with their stevia-sweetened drinks in part to meet an industry-wide effort to lower drink calories by 20 percent in the next decade and partly to recapture consumers' dwindling interest in sodas, according to CNNMoney.
