Signage for a new coffee shop at Plaza Towers has been installed ahead of an opening that's expected to come as soon as this month.
Plaza Towers owner Trent Overhue said this morning that The Daily Blend coffee shop likely would open within a week and a half, pending permitting.
"We're pretty much done. We're ready to get going," said Overhue, who also owns The Daily Blend. "We've got staff hired."
Employing approximately 15, The Daily Blend is located in roughly 1,500 square feet on the first floor of the northwest side of Plaza Towers, with patio seating facing Sunshine Street. Overhue declined to disclose startup costs, but he noted the infill was "on par with a lot of other interior infills."
"We revised quite a bit," he said of the space.
Plans call for The Daily Blend to serve coffee, smoothies and a breakfast selection that includes crepes and pastries, Overhue said.
The coffee shop, along with an event center and restaurant, was originally planned under former Plaza Towers owner Marco Denis. Overhue bought the 10-story, 130,000-square-foot building in an April foreclosure sale and signaled plans to revive those projects, according to past reporting.
Overhue said this morning that Plaza Towers has received its liquor license for the event center, and its first event is scheduled Oct. 30.
"We're ready to open, and we've been actively taking bookings," he said.
Permits have been approved for the restaurant, he said, noting subcontractors are starting work with an expected February completion date.
