The 1/4-mile SeniorLink trail will have a senior-friendly design and be handicap accessible, as well as available to the public for walking, wheelchair use or handicapped scooter use.
The trail is funded by a $40,720 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, which officials expect to cover all costs, according to Director of Marketing Tamera Heitz-Peek. It will have native Missouri vegetation and two community gardens and should take about 30 days to complete.
The Senior Health Center, 1840 W. Broadway St., is a free workout facility for people age 55 and older that has a swimming pool, hot tub, Tai Chi classes, Arthritis Foundation classes, Nu-Steps, treadmills, weights, rowers and a senior resource information room with Internet access, educational supplies and leisure books.
