Clinton joins Sanders in calls for economic equality

With independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders hot on her heels, early Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton unveiled her first major policy speech Monday, which centered on Sanders-like inequality themes.

Clinton called for broad reform of the U.S. corporate tax code at The New School university in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, and she said the economy would only run at full steam when middle-class wages rise alongside executive salary and company profits.

Sanders, a self-described “democratic socialist,” has gained ground in recent weeks in the race against Clinton for the Democratic party’s nomination for president by railing against income inequality and calling for tax-code reform.
