The Clever R-5 School Board voted unanimously this week to appoint a new superintendent to fill the role being vacated via retirement.
Steve Carvajal will succeed Richard Henson, who is retiring June 30 after 26 years with the district, according to a news release.
“Henson has done an outstanding job in leading the district and I look forward to trying to continue what he has worked hard to develop,” Carvajal said in the release.
The new Clever R-5 chief comes to the district from Salem R-80, where he was superintendent the last three years. Prior to that, he worked as superintendent for La Plata R-2 for five years. He also has past experience as a teacher, coach, athletic director and principal.
“Steve Carvajal emerged from a very thorough search process as the right candidate to lead the district,” Clever board President Marla Shuler said in the release. “The board is certain in our choice of Mr. Carvajal and confident that under his leadership, Clever R-5 … will continue to be recognized as a great school.”
