If Noennig is selected by the 300-member MAR board at the association’s Jan. 18 business conference in Jefferson City, he said he would become treasurer-elect in 2013; treasurer of the 18,000-member organization next year; president-elect in 2015; and president in 2016.
In running for the treasurer post, he cited a desire to improve support for Realtors on the local and state levels.
Noennig, a Greater Springfield Board of Realtors board member, said he didn’t get seriously involved in the MAR until 2008, a year before he was named president of the GSBOR.
Part of Noennig’s focus is to increase dwindling membership, which has fallen from roughly 28,000 members in 2007, he said. A review of the group’s strengths and weaknesses is ongoing through MAR’s O2 initiative, which is designed to collect member feedback in order to make sure the association stays nimble and relevant.
“The intention was to increase the output and increase the outreach to the membership, which is where the O2 comes from,” Noennig said.
According to material shared with members, the association spent $800,000 during the past two years on seven conferences. Noennig said MAR is trying to determine if it can more wisely allocate its expenditures and get the most mileage out of member dues. In addition, he said efforts are under way to make the top-heavy association more flexible. He said decreasing the number of board members could be an effective way to make the association more easily able to meet the needs of its members.
“There is a certain expectation among members that there are business meetings required and networking available – education events and things of that nature,” Noennig said. “I don’t think the expenditures were intended to shock anybody; it’s just a reality. Part of this initiative is to take a look at our operations and decide how we are going to better serve the membership.”
Noennig, a broker and chief administrative officer with CJR in Springfield, has been a state director with MAR since 2009, and a board member with the GSBOR since 2003. A
15-year real estate agent, Noennig has served on several state committees for MAR, and is currently a member of the research committee for the National Association of Realtors. In 2006, he was named GSBOR Realtor of the Year.
