City's May sales tax check improves 5.5%

The 1 percent sales tax check presented to the city of Springfield from the Missouri Department of Revenue was $2.4 million, a 5.5 percent increase compared to $2.3 million received in May of fiscal 2010.

The city's 1 percent sales tax check from the Revenue Department represents collections from the previous month.

With the most recent receipts, year-to-date collections are up 2 percent to $32.8 million, compared to $32.2 million at the same time last year.

The city's fiscal year runs through July 1-June 30.
