After announcing his retirement last week to city of Springfield officials, Deputy City Manager Fred Marty has made the decision to stay on board. Marty has reached a deal to work fewer hours.
"He is going to delay his retirement and continue working with the city," Springfield spokeswoman Cora Scott said.
Marty, who was in a meeting this morning, could not be reached for comment by deadline.
Scott said Marty hasn't made a determination about how long he'll stay on with the municipality. Marty, who made $134,888 a year working 40 hours a week, is reducing his workload to 30 hours a week, Scott said, noting the city hasn't yet figured his restructured salary.
Marty joined the city as deputy city manager in October 2010, after working as director of administration and chief clerk in Lycoming County, Penn., since 2007. He also has past experience as chancellor of Missouri State University-West Plains, executive director of Wonders of Wildlife and vice president of administrative services at MSU, according to
