City's March sales tax collections rise 7%

The city of Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check for March totaled $3.9 million, a 7.3 percent increase compared to $3.6 million in the same month of the prior fiscal year.

This month's check from the Missouri Department of Revenue represents the fourth positive year-to-year increase in fiscal 2013. Five months this fiscal year have seen percentage decreases compared to the same months of fiscal 2012. Springfield's fiscal year ends June 30, according to data provided by city officials.

Through March, the city's sales tax collections are $28.9 million, a 1.6 percent decrease compared to $29.3 million through the same period in fiscal 2012.

Sales tax checks from the Department of Revenue represent transactions made in previous months.
