City’s largest annual convention begins today

Posted online
About 2,500 educators from across the state are convening in Springfield today for the city’s largest convention of the year.

Members of the Missouri Association for Career & Technical Education are in town through Thursday for the organization’s annual conference and trade show, held at University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center and the Springfield Expo Center, according to the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau.

This marks the 20th year that the group has convened in Springfield.

Under a theme of “Rigor & Relevance,” keynote speaker Harry K. Wong will discuss teaching methods that have resulted in his having a 0 percent dropout rate, a 95 percent homework-turn-in rate and no discipline problems. Wong has 33 years of classroom experience.

Members of the organization are either employed in vocational education, are students in post-secondary institutions who are interested in promoting vocational education, or are retired from the sector.
