City's January sales tax collections up 5.5%

The city of Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check for the month of January increased by 5.5 percent to $3.28 million, compared to $3.11 million received in January 2011, according to a news release.

Though the amount is up year-to-date, the January check was down 17 percent from December collections of $3.95 million.

Including the January check, Springfield's year-to-date sales tax revenue is $23.16 million, 9.6 percent higher than the $21.14 million collected at the same time last fiscal year. The city and state's fiscal years began in July.[[In-content Ad]]
