Posted online
The city of Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check for January from the Missouri Department of Revenue came in at $2.9 million, a 10.6 percent drop compared to $3.3 million in the same month of the prior fiscal year.

The latest check also shows a significant decrease from December sales tax revenues of $3.8 million, according to data provided by the city.

Fiscal 2013 collections through January total roughly $22 million, down 5.1 percent compared to $23.2 million in the same period of fiscal 2012.

During fiscal 2013, which ends June 30, only two sales tax checks from the Department of Revenue have shown increases compared to the prior fiscal year. The August check increased 13.7 percent to $2.1 million, and the November check rose 10.2 percent to $2.4 million.

The January sales tax check represents transactions made in October and November, according to city spokeswoman Cora Scott.[[In-content Ad]]
