City's February sales tax check totals $3M

The city of Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check for February from the Missouri Department of Revenue totaled roughly $3 million, a 17.5 percent increase compared to $2.6 million in the same month last year.

The latest check represents the largest year-to-year percentage increase in fiscal 2013, which has had five months of percentage decreases out of the eight months so far this fiscal year. Other year-to-year increases came in August, which had a 13.7 percent jump to $2.1 million, and November, which rose 10.2 percent to $2.4 million, according to data provided by the city.

Through February, fiscal 2013 collections are $25 million, down 2.9 percent from $25.7 million at the same time last year.

The city's fiscal year ends June 30. Sales tax checks from the Department of Revenue represent transactions made in previous months.
