City's December sales tax check up 16%

The city of Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check for the month of December is up 16 percent compared to the same month of the prior fiscal year.

The latest sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue is for $3.9 million, compared to $3.4 million in December 2010, according to a news release.

December is the second-highest month in sales tax collections this fiscal year, falling behind September, when collections totaled $4.8 million.

Including the December check, the city's year-to-date collections are up 10.3 percent to $19.9 million, compared to $18 million at the same time last year. The city's 2012 fiscal year began in July.
