City's 1 percent sales tax falls short of projections

The city's 1 percent sales tax check for October from the Missouri Department of Revenue totaled $3.15 million, short of Springfield officials' budgeted projection of $3.52 million for the month.
The October 2011 sales tax check was $3.22 million.
During the first four months of fiscal 2013, the city's sales tax collections amount to $12.88 million, down 6.5 percent from $13.79 million at the same time in fiscal 2012. For the current fiscal year, which began July 1, the city had budgeted for $13.69 million, meaning collections are below projections by 5.9 percent, or $800,665, according to a news release.[[In-content Ad]]
