The event, which begins at 10:30 a.m. at Hickok’s Steakhouse, 314 S. Patton Ave., is a chance for agencies who have partnered with the city to hear updates, take tours and brainstorm ideas about Jordan Valley.
This year’s theme is “Redevelopment Through Community Engagement” and will focus on the visioning process for three upcoming phases of Jordan Valley: the Quarry, East Meadows and West Meadows.
The morning session will look at city partnerships with a number of agencies and will include a presentation to Discovery Center Executive Director Emily Fox in recognition of the science center’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification – the first in the region. The group also will take a driving tour of the three future Jordan Valley development sites.
At lunch, the Environmental Protection Agency will announce two grants awarded to Springfield – $1 million to establish a revolving loan fund for remediation of brownfields sites, and $200,000 for brownfields assessments for future development.
City Consultant Fred May then will present results of the community-visioning process. A second tour will take the group to several construction projects, including the recently opened Roy Blunt Jordan Valley Innovation Center.
The afternoon will close with a brainstorming session on future resources and projects in Jordan Valley.
