City teams with nonprofit to launch housing center

Posted online
The city of Springfield and Community Partnership of the Ozarks have joined to open an affordable housing center.

The Springfield Affordable Housing Center, 300 E. Central St. in City Government Plaza, is scheduled to open June 5, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the facility, according to a news release.

The center will offer direct access to housing service providers including the Springfield Community Land Trust, One Door, the Housing Authority, Veterans’ Administration and Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri.

"The city's support for the Springfield Affordable Housing Center is in keeping with our efforts to work with homeless service providers, One Door, the Springfield Community Land Trust, food pantries and others who assist those in need," City Manager Greg Burris said in the release. "Springfield is a giving community with a heart, and we want to do what we can to help those who need affordable housing, whether it's the homeless or those just needing a hand up."
