City sets parking rates for downtown garages

Starting today, the gates are in operation and tickets are being dispensed at downtown's two newest parking garages, but the cost to park there remains free for the month.

The Hollywood Theaters complex at College Station is scheduled to open later this fall, and that has prompted the city to enact parking rate structures for both the nearby College Station and Heer's car parks, according to a news release.

Parking will continue to be free until Oct. 31, after which rates will only apply to weekends until further notice.

From 5 p.m. Fridays to 2 a.m. Sundays, it will be $5 to park at the College Station Car Park. From 5:30 p.m. Fridays to 2 a.m. Sundays, it will be $5 to park at the Heer's garage. Downtown employees are encouraged to use the Heer's garage so spaces will be available for evening movie patrons at College Station, the release said.

Hollywood Theater patrons will receive free parking validation after the theater opens. The theater is not ready to release a grand opening date, but a three-day job fair to fill 40-60 theater positions starts today. Click here to read more.
