City sales tax check up 38% for March

Posted online
The city of Springfield’s 1 percent sales tax check received from the Missouri Department of Revenue for March was $3.59 million, up 38 percent from $2.6 million in March 2011.

The increase is artificially high, according to a news release from the city, as the amount of time the state has to process sales tax returns from businesses varies each month and affects monthly comparisons.

Year-to-date sale collections are $29.3 million, up nearly 10 percent from roughly $26.7 million last year, the release said.
