The city of Springfield has named a new assistant director in its Public Works Department.
Tom Dancey, a department veteran of nearly 20 years, has been promoted to assistant director over operations, effective Jan. 11, according to a news release. Dancey succeeds Assistant Director Eric Claussen, who accepted a job as assistant city manager of Beaufort, South Carolina.
“Throughout his career both at the city and other professional organizations, Tom has demonstrated excellent leadership skills and has earned a strong reputation as a knowledgeable, collaborative and trusted professional,” Public Works Director Dan Smith said in the release. “He is highly respected by colleagues and members of the community for his thoughtful approach, sound judgment and commitment to public service.”
Dancey, who has more than 30 years of engineering experience, most recently served as the Public Works Department's principal engineer over general services.
"It’s an honor to be part of our amazing Public Works team. I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to further contribute to our department as we work together in serving our community," Dancey said in the release.
Dancey's assistant director annual salary is $153,073, said Kristen Milam, the city’s senior communications coordinator.
The Public Works Department oversees engineering services, transportation and stormwater systems, facilities and grounds, and additional support services, according to the city's website.
