The city of Republic's Senior Internship program has announced the acceptance of Republic High School senior Dustin Beasley as city intern during the upcoming school year.
Beasley was accepted for the internship due to his interest in city government and economic development, a city release stated. Beasley, the son of Danny and Vickie Beasley, is a three-year A-honor roll student and a member of the Republic Tiger Pride Band.
"It is very exciting to be an intern with the city at such a crucial point in the development of Republic," Beasley said.
The city's Senior Internship program gives Republic High School seniors the opportunity to explore career possibilities in the Republic area.
The internship will expose Beasley to the inner workings of each city department and the process of economic development, Republic city administrator Dean Thompson said. He also will research issues affecting local government, attend various board and committee meetings, and communicate using formal and informal correspondence through public speaking and presentations. At the conclusion of the internship, Beasley will present the research to the administration and the Board of Alderman.
"I am excited to know that there are young people in Republic who have a desire to learn more about our form of government," Republic Mayor Keith Miller said.
