State law requires the auditor to conduct an audit of any political subdivision if requested to do so by at least 325 registered voters in the political subdivision. According to a news release from McCaskill’s office, 332 signatures of resident registered voters were received on the petitions.
State law also requires the entity being audited to pay for the audit.
McCaskill’s office has begun the information-gathering phase of the auditing process. Anyone with information or concerns about the audit may call the state auditor’s toll-free hotline at (800) 347-8597. The hotline is equipped for the hearing impaired, and all information will be kept confidential.
When the audit is finished, findings and recommendations may be delivered by McCaskill’s office at a public meeting.
