The Springfield City Council hired Kristy Bork, BKD supervising accountant, to fill its internal auditor position. She will start Sept. 27.
Bork, a certified public accountant and a Missouri State University graduate with bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting, worked for BKD since 2004, according to a city news release.
The internal auditor is one of the three positions - along with city manager and city clerk - that is hired by and reports directly to City Council. Bork will report to the council's finance committee, the release said.
"I'm very excited to be joining the city," Bork said in the release. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to serve not only the city and City Council, but all of those in Springfield who fund our local government with their tax dollars."
April Lathrom, the city's first internal auditor who was hired in August 2008, died in late February from cancer. She was 36.
The position has been empty since, as no interim internal auditor was brought on.[[In-content Ad]]
