According to a city news release, City Clerk Brenda Cirtin Wednesday announced that a citizen-initiated petition to prohibit anyone younger than 21 from entering bars or nightclubs has been proven to contain a sufficient number of required signatures.
The petition was submitted June 2 with approximately 2,226 signatures. The number of certified signatures needed was 1,392, but in keeping with city policy, Cirtin’s office certified 1,419 of them before stopping the process.
City Council is expected to take public comment on the proposed ordinance at its June 26 meeting, with final action expected to be taken July 10. Council has 30 days to adopt the proposal or put it on the Nov. 7 ballot.
