City, businesses recycle Christmas trees

Posted online
The Christmas morning frenzy of unwrapping is over, but the Christmas tree remains. The city of Springfield has issued a reminder that trees are not accepted at Missouri landfills, but there are green options for fading Christmas greenery.

All trees should be stripped of ornaments, icicles and tree stands.

• Bass Pro Shops is accepting trees at the northeast entrance to its Sportsman’s Park headquarters at 2500 E. Kearney through Jan. 1. The company recycles treesi as fish and wildlife habitat. A $2 fee per tree goes to support the Boy Scouts.

• Wickman’s Garden Village is accepting trees through Jan. 15. A fee of $5 per tree goes to support The Kitchen. Trees are ground into wood chip mulch, which is available free of charge.

The city of Springfield’s Yardwaste Recycling Center on Farm Road 164 accepts Christmas trees and other yard waste year-round. There is no fee for city residents’ individual trees, but donations are accepted. Commercial fees do apply to commercial loads. Visit www.springfieldmogov.org/recycling for more information. Christmas trees are not accepted at the city’s recycling centers on Franklin and Lone Pine.[[In-content Ad]]
