Cisco Systems plans to cut 6,000 jobs

After reporting a quarter of slow sales growth, Cisco Systems Inc. announced it would remove about 6,000 employees from its payrolls.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the reductions amount to about 8 percent of the technology company's global workforce as Cisco continues to struggle in emerging markets and selling to cable companies and other service providers.

A year ago, the company announced plans to cut 4,000 jobs, or 5 percent of its workforce.

Cisco's fourth-quarter profit slid 1 percent on revenue that edged down 0.5 percent.
