Cisco confirms thousands of layoffs

Cisco Systems confirmed Wednesday it would eliminate up to 5,500 jobs.

The figure is much less than the up to 14,000 jobs sources familiar with the matter told technology news website CRN that Cisco would cut.

The latest round of cuts comes after the San Jose, Calif.-based company laid off 6,000 in a restructuring in 2014.
