British movie theater operator Cineworld signed on to buy American counterpart Regal Entertainment for $3.6 billion.
The combined company, with more than 9,000 screens, would be the second-largest theater operator in the world.
Regal Entertainment operates the Regal College Station Stadium 14 theater in downtown Springfield.
