Cigna reached a deal to sell its Medicare business for $3.7 billion.
Health Care Service Corp. penned the deal to take control of Cigna's Medicare Advantage, Supplemental Benefits and Part D customers. It also would buy the CareAllies business that works with health care providers and the Evernorth Health Services unit that provides pharmacy benefits.
"The acquisition will bring many opportunities to (Health Care Service) and its members − including a wider range of product offerings, robust clinical programs and a larger geographic reach," company CEO Maurice Smith said in a statement.
