Christian County to get $1M from FEMA

Posted online
Christian County will receive $1.2 million out of $28.2 million headed to Missouri from the Federal Emergency Management agency for storm repair work.

Christian County will use the funding from FEMA, part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, to support the acquisition and removal of a commercial building damaged by flooding on the Finley River this spring, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill. The building must be removed to reduce the threat of future damage or loss of life and to reduce emergency response and evacuation costs.

Meanwhile in southeast Missouri, two electric utilities are getting funding to repair damage from ice storms last winter.

Ozark Border Electric Cooperative - which covers a 10-county area in and around Poplar Bluff - will receive nearly $15 million to repair damage to its electrical distribution system from ice and fallen tree limbs. SEMO Electric Cooperative, covering six counties in the Missouri Bootheel, will receive $12.3 million for similar work.
