Two Christian County school districts are among five to receive grants from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
The Clever R-5 School District and Ozark R-6 School District each have been awarded up to 25 percent of the cost of a new school bus, with a maximum of $20,000 per recipient, according to a news release.
The school buses would replace aging vehicles with cleaner running versions. Administered by the DNR, the funding comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Missouri department's Clean Diesel Program aims to promote healthier children by lowering their risk of developing adverse health conditions because of diesel emissions.
Other Missouri school districts awarded funding from the DNR were Hannibal, Joplin and West County, the release said.
Cholesterol testsWith the help of grant funding, CoxHealth, Kohl's and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals are extending a cholesterol screening program for Nixa Public Schools fifth graders.
The $42,000 grant provided by Kohl's funding the
Cardiac Kids program covers the cost of biometrics measurements and diabetes and blood tests, according to a news release from Nixa schools.
CoxHealth is sending nursing students to Nixa to perform the screenings.[[In-content Ad]]
